About Judy
Original oil paintings by Larry and Judith Pumfrey

"For me, painting is an attempt to capture those magic moments when time stops and we are most fully alive.  My passion is to paint people engaged and absorbed by whatever they are doing and capturing those "moments in time" that invoke and create memories.

Judith Pumfrey, member of the North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester, MA, is a contemporary American

impressionist painter known for the light and color qualities that permeate her work. Judy has studied with

Boston  School painters David Curtis, Robert Cormier and Robert Douglas Hunter.

She also studied at the Cape Cod School  of Art, Montserrat School of Art and most recently has enriched her

love of California and Russian Impressionism by studying with Joseph Mendez, Louise DeMore,

Kevin MacPherson, Matt Smith and others. Currently she is pursuing her fascination with Russian

impressionism and  the teachings of Sergei Bongart and Nicolai Fechin.

Judy shares her life and passion for art with her husband Larry. They enjoy the opportunities of a common interest

and share painting, teaching and critiquing art together.. They particularly enjoy discussing art theory and books

by artists that inspire them and promote ideas for seeing and feeling the visual qualities of an Image.

Their six children and fourteen grandchildren fill their lives and provide inspiration for many of Judy's paintings.
